Showmax is a streaming service that offers a variety of award-winning TV shows, movies, Showmax Originals, kids shows & sport. We continuously strive to grow the film and TV industry by developing talent in front of, and behind the camera, and propel the launch of local and international careers.

What are we looking for?

Showmax is seeking to commission an original, dynamic and entertaining game show format that aligns with the tastes and aspirations of Kenyan audiences.

We are seeking creative concepts that cater to the unique cultural, social, and entertainment preferences of Kenyan viewers, delivering high-impact television content that attracts large audiences, enhances viewer engagement, and positions our platform as the go-to destination for fun and family-friendly entertainment.

Editorial Guide:

The game show must resonate with Kenyan culture, values, and interests. This may include incorporating aspects of local languages, traditions, humor, and contemporary trends that make the content relatable and engaging for Kenyan viewers.

The game show format can vary (quiz-based, talent-based, physical, trivia, etc.) and should be easy to follow, with clear rules and engaging rounds. It should feature a mix of individual and/or team-based gameplay. The game should allow for a balance of skill, knowledge, and entertainment.

The game show should also feature charismatic hosts and a diverse group of contestants, reflecting Kenya's rich diversity in terms of ethnicity, age, and background. 

Proposals should outline a compelling prize structure that motivates participation. The prizes should be non-monetary (no cash prizes), product-based, or experiential, keeping in mind the interests of the target audience.

High-quality production values are crucial for creating an immersive and captivating viewing experience therefore proposals should include a vision for set design, visual aesthetics, and sound elements.

Proposal Requirements:

• Format Summary: A brief overview of the game show concept, including the format, target audience, and unique selling points.

• Detailed Show Concept: A comprehensive outline of the game show, including:

o Format breakdown (game mechanics, rounds, and gameplay)

o Description of the host and contestant criteria & selection process

o Proposed episode structure (timing, segments, and pacing)

o Prize structure (non-monetary) and incentives

• Full Budget: A detailed budget, including pre-production, production, and post-production costs. All costs should be itemized and a Cost Per Minute (CPM) included.

• Currency:  Must be Kenya Shillings.

• Tentative Production Schedule : Timelines from final development of the format, pre-production, production, post-production and final delivery.

• Production Design Mood-board: Provide detailed visual references to illustrate the overall look and feel of the game show including stage/set layout (how the physical space will be used), set color palette and themes, props & other game elements that contestants will use during the show etc. If your game show involves physical challenges or competitions, outline how these will be set up on stage and the mechanics behind each challenge, ensuring these are scalable, safe, and visually exciting.

• Team & Contacts: Who is the team behind the project? What have you done previously? Please include a company profile and highlight the experience of the team.

• Business Case: Why is this format exciting to the Showmax audience? Which gap or demand are you satisfying?

• Pilot Episode Preview Copy: A link to a pilot episode or trailer if available.

• Show Reel: Previous content produced including dates and broadcasting stations.

• References: Please provide a list of previous clients. (Minimum of 2 clients)

• Attach the following compliance documents with your presentation:

o A valid Business License.

o Certified Copy of KRA/ Company certificate for business. 

o Certified Copy of KRA certificate for Executive/Lead Producer.

o A certified copy of the Executive/Lead producer’s passport/national ID/driver’s license.

o Certified copy of a valid Tax Clearance Certificate. 

o Certified copy of Clearance Certificate from Country’s Copyright Society 

o Certified copy of Film Registration Certificate from Kenya Film Classification Board. 

 

Submission process

All the requirements must be uploaded in one power point presentation deck which has a maximum of 20 slides.

Please note that submissions emailed or dropped at our office will NOT be accepted.

Technical and editorial standards required by Showmax will be set out in the production agreement.

Showmax will have the final editorial and creative control over all aspects of Commissioned Programming.

N.B: Failure to submit any of the above documents will lead to disqualification.

The Evaluation/Selection Process

• Receipt of proposals will be acknowledged by portal notification.

• Proposals will be evaluated by a panel of Evaluators selected by Showmax Management.

• If successful, shortlisted proposals will be invited through email for a pitching session.

 

Our selection process will take approximately 8 weeks. 

If you don’t hear from us within 90 days after the submission deadline, consider your application unsuccessful.
