Showmax is a streaming service that offers a variety of award-winning TV shows, movies, Showmax Originals, kids shows & sport. We continuously strive to grow the film and TV industry by developing talent in front of, and behind the camera, and propel the launch of local and international careers.

What are we looking for?

Showmax Tanzania is seeking new and exciting movie proposals from Tanzanian filmmakers. We are looking for movies with aspirational themes but also rooted in Tanzania’s diverse and dynamic realities.

GENRE: Drama, Comedy, Thriller, Mystery, Romance

TARGET AUDIENCE: 16 – 35 years male and female

DURATION: 90 mins

LANGUAGE: Swahili

Editorial Guide:

We are looking for feature film proposals that stand out with their creativity, originality, and alignment with our audience's preferences. The concept should have a unique narrative that captivates audiences from start to finish and strong, relatable characters with authentic arcs.The story must respect the Tanzanian societal norms, values and cultures. 

Proposal Requirements:

• Logline: A 25-word summary of an original concept/story clearly indicating the protagonist and antagonist, what they want, and what is in the way of them achieving that (obstacles).

• Full Budget: All production costs should be itemized and a Cost Per Minute (CPM) included.

• Currency:  Must be Tanzanian Shillings.

• Tentative Production Schedule : Timelines from development & scripting to production to post-production to final delivery.

• Overall Plotline & Themes: The main themes of the film.

• 500 words synopsis: Highlighting all the key plot points from the beginning to the end.Kindly make use of the three-act structure.

• Character bios of key characters: Their goals, needs, desires and weaknesses.

• World of the Story: Locations and setting of the film.

• Mood-board: Visual references that convey the desired look, feel, and overall aesthetic of the film.

• Team & Contacts: Who is the team behind the project? What have you done previously? Please include a company profile and highlight the experience of the team.

• Business Case: Why is this exciting to the Showmax audience? Which gap or demand are you satisfying?

• Proof of concept Preview Copy: A link to a teaser or trailer if available.

• Show reel: Previous content produced. Please include dates and broadcasting stations.

• References: Please provide a list of previous clients. (Minimum of 2 clients)

• Attach the following compliance documents with your presentation:

o A valid Business license.

o Certified Copy of TRA/VRN/TIN certificate for business.

o Certified Copy of TRA/VRN/TIN certificate for Executive/Lead Producer.

o A certified copy of the Executive/Lead producer’s passport/national ID/driver’s license.

o Certified copy of a valid Tax Clearance Certificate.

o Certified copy of Certificate of Registration from Country’s Copyright Society.

o Certified copy of Clearance Certificate from Country’s Copyright Society 

o Certified copy of Film Registration Certificate from Tanzania Film Board. 

Submission process

All the requirements must be uploaded in one power point presentation deck which has a maximum of 15 slides.

Please note that submissions emailed or dropped at our office will NOT be accepted.

Technical and editorial standards required by Showmax will be set out in the production agreement.

Showmax will have the final editorial and creative control over all aspects of Commissioned Programming.

N.B: Failure to submit any of the above documents will lead to disqualification

The Evaluation/Selection Process

• Receipt of proposals will be acknowledged by portal notification.

• Proposals will be evaluated by a panel of Evaluators selected by Showmax Management.

• If successful, shortlisted proposals will be invited through email for a pitching session.

Our selection process will take approximately 8 weeks. 

If you don’t hear from us within 90 days after the submission deadline, consider your application unsuccessful.
