Showmax Kenya Romantic Comedy Commissioning Movie Brief

What we are looking for:

They say all the love stories have been told and we disagree- Showmax is welcoming Kenyan movie proposals with an uplifting Afro-centric take on the romantic comedy genre whilst still maintaining a strong commercial edge. There is excitement for characters that audiences can marvel about even after the movie is over; love stories that appeal to the universality of love whilst still defying the cliches of the genre.

We are accepting proposals for a feature movie that will be 90 minutes in duration and in these languages: English, Swahili.

Proposal Requirements

  • Logline: summary of the story.
  • Plotline (Ensure the highlights all the key plot points from the beginning to the end)
  • Character bios of main key characters – not more than 4 characters. (Their goals, needs, desires and weaknesses)
  • Mood-board: Picture collage that gives us a glimpse on how your film will look like in terms of cinematography and production design, mood, and tone.
  • Company profile & Team: Who are the filmmakers behind the project? What have you done previously? Who will be doing what?
  • Preliminary Budget: How much will it cost to produce the movie at each stage – research & Scripting, Production & Post-production?
  • Showreel: A link to your showreel or sample of your work.
  • References: Please include contact details for three references. References cannot include M-Net personnel.

Do not submit scripts. Any complete scripts will only be requested from shortlisted filmmakers.

Presentation must not be more than 8 slides.

Showmax will have the final editorial and creative control over all aspects of the Commissioned Movie. Technical and editorial standards required will be set out in the production agreement.

The Evaluation/Selection Process

Receipt of proposals will be acknowledged by email notification. Only shortlisted applications will be invited for pitches.

Our selection process will take roughly 8 weeks. If you don’t hear from us within 60 days after submissions deadline, consider your application unsuccessful.
